There are a number of actions that you can take to assist in making your job search journey easier. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Be Prepared – have a voicemail system in place and have a professional message and email address
  • Be More than Prepared – Always have an up-to-date resume ready to send even if you are not currently looking for work
  • Don’t Wait – If you are laid off, file for EI and seek assistance right away
  • Get Help – Utilize professionals like your Goodwill Career Centre
  • Use Job Search Engines – Use job search engines such as Indeed.ca to research job opportunities
  • References – Have at least three professional and two personal references ready but do not give these out until a job offer is pending
  • Network, Network and Network – 80% of jobs are not advertised develop your network to help uncover them
  • Don’t Stop – Keep active every day, attend workshops and have a detailed weekly schedule of your job search activities
